In a Pro-Rata system, the value of an individual stream is extremely low (fractions of a cent), and it's an average calculated across the entire platform. In a UCPS system, the value of a stream from a dedicated fan is potentially much higher, as it's directly tied to their subscription fee. This means that a smaller number of highly engaged fans can generate more revenue for an artist in a UCPS model than in a Pro-Rata model, fundamentally changing the economics for niche artists.
