The Pro-Rata model inherently benefits superstar artists and major labels. Because the pool is distributed proportionally to total streams, artists with billions of streams (who already receive massive marketing pushes) capture a disproportionately large share of the revenue pool. The money paid by a niche fan to listen to an independent artist contributes to the same pool that then pays out primarily to the top 1% of streamed artists. This creates a structural disadvantage for independent and niche creators, as their streams have less impact on the overall revenue distribution.
